My parents bought a new house and it’s a tad sad. My family moved into their current abode when I was ten. The butterfly wallpaper (with a border no less) is no longer my style, but as any childhood room it holds lots of memories. Yet, beyond memories, that room holds a ton of furniture and my past possessions.
The Mister and I have pulled some of my old teaching materials out of there. Confession: I still have a lot/most of my teaching materials. I have no idea where I am going to put some my things. We only have an attic for storage – no basement or garage. My tubs of books are simply too large and heavy to sensibly carry. I plan on going through our load thus far this weekend. Hopefully, I will part with some things. I struggle with getting rid of it. So much time and money (so much money…) was involved. This weekend I pulled out a tub containing my center materials and on top were my “Word Wands.” I quickly pull out some and started waving them as if a fairy. None of those teaching materials match my decor. However, some of the furniture does.
Some. I’m lucky in that my parents are letting us have some pieces, including my dresser. There are some other wonderful pieces that I’m not sure what I could do with or simply where I would put them. They have a lot of furniture and it is good furniture. Valuable, solid with good bones, well taken care of pieces. To give you an idea of how much furniture this house contains my bedroom has the following: two bookcases, a large glass wall curio cabinet, dresser with small display cabinet on top, desk with display shelf on top of that, two banister twin beds and a larger sized square table in between the beds.
They have been wanting to downgrade for a while now. My mother has always been on the search for another home. Their new home is still large. Plus, it has a pool house. Yet, it is going to require some love and caress with careful planning of furniture placement. On my flight home tonight I believe I’m going to start laying out some rooms. I may use this home as a new muse. Prepare for some time with the Meek family. They’re great. You’ll love them too.
I almost forgot to mention that my old room has lavender carpeting too. I’ll take photos.
